Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Governor Cuomo is making sure that New York State remains a leader in energy production and environmental protection. Last week, the Governor announced a series of innovative clean energy and environmental initiatives that will lower energy costs for New Yorkers and create tens of thousands of jobs.
Continuing his commitment to reduce energy consumption in state buildings by 20% over the next four years, Governor Cuomo announced $450 million for cost-effective energy efficiency projects. In 2011 alone, energy efficiency upgrade projects saved New Yorkers $9 million and created 3,000 jobs. The upgrades involved no cost to New York taxpayers as the upfront investments will be repaid with energy-bill savings. Click here to read more.
New York continues to lead in solar energy development as well with the Governor’s announcement of the NY-Sun Initiative, which will help quadruple annual solar development by 2013. The initiative expands financial incentives for large- and small-scale commercial and residential solar projects. Click here to read more.
The Governor also understands that New York must continue to attract emerging energy technologies; new solar and wind testing labs in New York State announced last week will make it easier for New York manufacturers to get products certified and ready for market. Click here to read more.
These latest announcements underscore our state’s leadership role in clean energy development and environmental protection and build upon previously announced initiatives.
