“As Supervisor I will appoint a member of my staff as the Redevelopment Commissioner. Their duty will be to coordinate and expedite the often cumbersome process a new or expanding business faces while attempting to redevelop an existing vacant building in Amherst”, Amherst Supervisor Candidate Mark A Manna said today.
Manna continued, “When a business is considering a redevelopment project, the town needs to create a “One Stop Shop” program so a business owner can have their questions answered and be given direction by one person. Currently ,most new businesses are unfamiliar with our planning and building codes and are forced to deal with many separate departments which is often expensive, frustrating and time consuming.”
Manna concluded “My Redevelopment Commissioner will be available to speak with businesses at their location to guide them thru the necessary steps needed to successfully redevelop a currently vacant building and to cut as much “red tape” as possible.
New development is not our future, Redevelopment is our future and the town needs to be more proactive and user-friendly in this endeavor.”
