Golden Gloves to Crown Champs of New York State

Winners Will Advance to the National Championship

Buffalo, NY – On Friday April 23rd, the ECC Burt Flickinger Center will host the New York State Golden Gloves Championship. Finalists from both the East and West Regions will go head to head in an event that is sure to be engaging and entertaining. Both the Western and Eastern regional have been an exciting display of athleticism, heart, and good sportsmanship from its participants. This will continue this Friday, as boxers will be crowned New York State Golden Gloves Champions.

On March 9th, the Western Regional took place; winners included:

Mike Christopher (novice, 152 lb), Water Williams (sub-novice141 lb), Jordan McKinnon and Jose Rodriguez (sub novice, 152 lb). Lavius Williams (open-class, 123 lb), Saadiq Muhammed (open class, 152 lb), Corey Webster (open class, 165 lb), Darryl Griffin (open class, 178 lb), Luis Berrios, Max Connors and Anthony Cuevas ( 132 lb, match bout), Pietro Muscato (165 lb, match bout), Patrick Thompson (178 lb, match bout), and Erick Rogers (201 lb, match bout).

This will be the final chance Buffalo residents will have to see these fighters locally. The open class winners of the New York State Championship this Friday will advance to the Golden Gloves National Championship in Little Rock Arkansas.

 Adult admission for the final night is $25 and $15 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at Pacillo’s on Hertel Avenue, at Doris Records on East Ferry Street, any of the four local Carubba Collision locations or at Clicketix.com.

    in 1974 jimmy giambelluca won the finals ,and guess who is jose rodrigues trainer is ,you got it ,what are the odds,guess what, the buffalo news did not show up ,or write about it ,35 years ago golden gloves had the finals in buffalo the last time ,this was a big deal in sports ,thank you for your interest
