Turnout Appears Strong This Primary Day: ‘I’d come back from the dead to vote’

Nothing was going to stop Gwen Joseph from voting this Primary Day.

“I vote every year, but I think I’d come back from the dead to vote this year,” the 82-year-old widow said after casting her ballot at Amherst’s Smallwood Elementary School.

“I’m sure my husband would, too,” she added with a smile. “But I’m looking around, and I don’t see him.”

The Democrat echoed a theme among voters Thursday, saying that the national political environment helped fuel their motivation to participate in Primary Day.

“My vote is needed,” Joseph said. “Too upset to talk about it.”
