With Help From Neighbors, Revamped Amherst Playground Reopens

The playground at West Royal Park reopened after a $188,000 upgrade and after a group of neighbors spent the day installing equipment.

The town last year tore down the outdated playground at West Royal Park, at 187 Royal Parkway West just east of the I-290, said Mary-Diana Pouli, executive director of Amherst’s Youth and Recreation Department.

The Town Board in late April hired Parkitects to supervise the project, with new equipment from Landscape Structures. The June 23 community build allowed Amherst to save about $30,000 on installation costs, Pouli said. The opening was delayed until late August by the installation of new surfacing.
