5 Comments From Concerned Citizens: Death of Bear in Amherst

The Amherst Times readers and commenters are spot on. This bear was doomed when first he set paw in Amherst where wildlife of any kind, anywhere are not respected or protected.

Joe D. apparently did hear the shot that killed the bear. Should have been a tranquilizer shot not a kill shot. The bear had been in neighborhoods for days, even after the injury.

Lois is right, the bear should have been tranquilized, soon after the injury. There were plenty of opportunities.

WONDER JUST WHO MADE THE DECISION TO KILL INSTEAD OF TRANQUILIZING…WHERE WERE THE DEC PEOPLE.OUT CHASING PEOPLE FISHING WITHOUT A LICENSE??

Bear was just seen on Renaissance Dr and Raphael ct. Police there now…was out side earlier and heard either a single gunshot or a firecracker go off down the road. If it was..I hope that it was from a tranquilizer gun!!

2018/07/09 at 3:36 pm If this bear is looking for a forested area with natural vegetation and food, he is plum out of luck in Amherst. Not much left after the plundering of land by wolfish developers and corrupt politicians.

2018/07/08 at 7:00 pm Bear’s first mistake was crossing into Amherst territory where wildlife and their habitats are always up for grabs by the insatiable developers and their ever-obliging politicians. Untouched land, wetlands, wildlife, clean water, clean air are overrated anyway.

Instead of killing outright, just let it roam where it can be injured then, when weakened by injury, kill it. Should have intervened long before it reached this point. Now what geniuses?? In the end, wildlife and their habitats always lose in Amherst and eventually so do the people.
