The Amherst Industrial Development Agency has hired a veteran of the commercial real estate industry as its director of business development.

Jonathan O’Rourke started Monday, said Executive Director David S. Mingoia.

Mingoia said the Amherst resident will earn less than $100,000 annually but declined to provide an exact salary. He was selected following a monthslong search and the appointment wasn’t subject to board approval.

The IDA hasn’t had a director of business development recently. Mingoia previously served as deputy director but the agency didn’t replace him after he was promoted in 2017.

Isn’t this the old chair of the Planning Board. OMG Is there no new blood in this town ever? Is everything recycled including garbage?

Holy Smokes!! This is a classic conflict of interest; putting the fox in the hen house to pass out taxpayers’ dollars to the fox and his friends. Then, if that is not enough, pay the fox, almost $100,000 of taxpayer money. Is there no end to the taxpayer getting ripped off via the IDA?

For all those wondering why are taxes are going up, look no further than the sleazy racket going on at the IDA

The Amherst Times editorial on a 1 year building moratorium is a good start but it would need to be longer than 1 year to be effective.

There is another issue which should be considered in order to stop the over development of Amherst and that issue is Concurrency.
It should be become part of the Amherst Town Code that no one can sit on the Town Board, Zoning Board, Planning Board and Amherst IDA concurrently. In addition, any member of the Amherst IDA should be ineligible for the other three above Boards for 2 years after they leave the Amherst IDA. This should be enacted now – before the next election.

Of course, best solution for fixing Amherst Government is to completely eliminate the Corporate Welfare Program called the Amherst IDA.
