Occupants Return to 7 Buildings on UB’s North Campus Evacuated After Gas Leak

June 11, 2019

Faculty, staff and students evacuated from seven buildings on the University at Buffalo North Campus this morning because of a gas leak returned shortly before 11 a.m.

University at Buffalo police ordered the evacuations at 9:10 a.m. and said National Fuel had shut off the leak by 10:15. The school then ventilated the buildings for about 45 minutes before they were safe to occupy again.

A university spokesman said the leak developed when a contractor repairing a sidewalk on Putnam Way, near Capen Hall, struck a gas line.

UB police issued the evacuation order for seven buildings along the university’s main Academic Spine: Capen Hall, the Student Union, Park Hall, O’Brian Hall, Jacobs Management Center, Baldy Hall and Lockwood Library.
