Patronage Jobs Must Stop Now in Amherst

Feb. 7, 2019

Mr. Szukala Is A Perfect Example of Patronage Jobs. He is running for the Amherst Town Board.

Wednesday night the Amherst Democratic Committee held a “Meet and Greet” for the people who said they were interested in running for office in Amherst. Each person was asked at the end of their speech if they would primary the endorsed candidate. That is everyone but me after I spoke about why I wanted to be endorsed for the Town Board. Mr. Schad didn’t ask me if I would primary the endorsed candidate. If he had asked my answer would have been “No.” I wouldn’t primary anyone with the exception being if they endorsed Mike Szukala for the Town Board.

I was unaware Alissa Shields dropped out of the race for a Town Board seat and wasn’t present for this Meet and Greet I personally feel Alissa Shields would be an excellent choice for our Town Board.

Mr. Szukala is running for the Amherst Town Board. He works for Erie County Executive Mark Polancarz. Mr. Polancarz actually created a job for his friend Mike Szukala. The job title was originally INSPECTOR GENERAL Of NEW YORK STATE but was quickly changed to INSPECTOR GENERAL OF MEDICAID. Mr. Polandcarz was informed there already was a real Inspector General of New York State.

Szukala’s salary was set at over $102,000.

Amherst already has a Town Board a member who worked for Mr. Szukala but apparently, Mr. Polancarz wants to have more power in Amherst.

Hopefully, the Amherst Democratic Committee will choose Alissa Shields and not give another patronage job to Michael Szukala.
