Locked hearts and a ribbon to mark cancer awareness add to the landscape on George Urban Boulevard in Cheektowaga.

For the past eight years he has carefully mowed interlocking hearts into the sloping grass, sparking smiles among motorists, some of whom go out of their way to drive by the heart-studded hillside, west of George Urban Boulevard near the Thruway.

This week, Vaughan added to his grassy gallery by mowing a ribbon to mark breast cancer awareness alongside the hearts. The ribbons were created in memory of his mother who lost her life to cancer – but it was a neighbor who planted the seed.
