What to Expect For the Next 36 Hours: Season’s First Lake-effect Snow

There could be some areas of Western New York where plows will run for the first time this season, forecasts show.

Lake-effect snow is coming.

The higher elevations of the Southern Tier will see the most between Friday and Sunday, but metro Buffalo won’t escape all of it, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Here’s what the National Weather Service says to expect:


Increasing clouds with lows in the low 30s.

Light westerly winds shifting overnight and becoming easterly by early Friday.


There will be chances for snow and rain in metro Buffalo. Precipitation will evolve into rainfall during the early afternoon.

Little accumulation is expected.
